Celebrating 30 years of women priests

We celebrated 30 years of ordained women priests on 24 April 2024 in the Diocese of Guildford by filming a special interview with Revd Canon Mavis Wilson, Revd Esther Holly Hunt and Revd Rosemary Donovan. Each is linked by their time, past and present, at Christ Church in Epsom as well as their vocations as priests.

The interview marks and celebrates the journey to that day 30 years ago as well as the journey since. Mavis was part of the initial cohort of 32 women ordained as priests by the then Bishop of Guildford, the Rt Revd Michael Adie on Sunday 24 April 1994. Esther represents the newest women priests by holding the unofficial title of ‘latest ordained priest’ in the diocese having been ordained in January at Christ Church Epsom Common, following her maternity leave.

Rosemary, as Diocesan Advisor for Women’s Ministry and Vicar Christ Church Epsom Common, led the interview.
