Free haircuts are on offer at St Martin’s church Camberley every Monday.
Luigi, a professional barber working in Old Dean, who attends St Martin’s, is offering trims and is happily taking on all styles.
“Luigi came to me with the offer of free haircuts,” says the Revd Chris Richardson, Vicar of St Martin’s. “He’s a newcomer, but knows Christ very well and wanted to tap into the Church by gifting us his talent,” he says.
“He is very open about his faith and does it in such a natural and loving way that people just smile along with him.”
The haircuts build on the success of the St Martin’s Sunday Free Food stall, which is run in partnership with the Old Dean Community Group, and the Free Community Breakfast, and the Free Wednesday and Saturday Cafe.
Luigi couldn’t wait to get going. He is managing 20 trims in the session between 3 and 5.30. This week, he didn’t stop cutting, but there were no long queues and there were no gaps in the stream of heads coming to St Martin’s for a trim.
Asked why he’s offering free haircuts, Luigi says, “I love God, I love our community and I just want to serve him.”
