The Farnham Flower Festival celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on the weekend of May 14-15 at St John’s Church, Hale. More than 50 entries from local groups, churches and other faith groups, businesses, artists, schools and individuals, decorated the church, including art, craft, poetry and music.
“We had some fantastic entries this year, many with a Jubilee theme,” says Stella Wiseman, one of the organisers. “Including a Coronation Tea display; a floral crown; red, white and blue displays; the National Anthem in floral musical notes; even a Jubilee chicken,” she says
There was be a floral canopy by House of Eclare, and art, craft, poetry and displays from a wide range of local groups including the Badshot Lea Bloomers, Farnborough College of Technology, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Badshot Lea Village Infant School, and Hale Methodist Church.
Florescence, an award-winning floristry business based in Farnham kindly sponsored the event.
“It was an uplifting, creative festival where, along with enjoying all the displays you were able to listen to live music and eat homemade cake. What more could you want for an early summer weekend?” asks Stella.
The next major event at St John’s will be a service of Thanksgiving on Sunday, June 5, at 12pm, to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The Bishop of Dorking, the Right Reverend Jo Bailey Wells, will preside and preach, and 2nd Farnham (Hale) Scouts will parade.
