Wednesday 31st January marked a significant step forward for the church at Mindenhurst on the former barracks at Deepcut. The refurbishment of exterior of the former garrison church, St Barbara’s, was completed by Skanska in December 2023 and today marked the start of the construction of the adjacent church hall, also for construction by Skanska. Bishop Paul gave thanks for the journey so far and prayed for God’s favour in the coming years.
The Mindenhurst church will continue to meet in a local school for another year: the hall is to be built, the interior of St Barbara’s refurbished and the carpark completed and some of this cannot start until all the planning conditions required by the local planning authority have been met for the whole of the Mindenhurst redevelopment.
However these fruitful steps demonstrate the commitment to the community and the tireless work of all involved.
