Hambledon hosts first pet service

This harvest season Muddy Church and Hambledon Church teamed up to celebrate and run their first-ever Pet Service.

Having walked around Hambledon and meeting owners and pets alike it seemed like a good idea for them to run such a service.

Without further ado, they invited Hambledon’s resident llamas, Diesel and Champagne, to join. The pair of llamas were the first to arrive and greeted everyone warmly on the day.

The theme of the service was based on the Bible narrative of Noah’s Ark, and started with the song “Tiny Little Me” which celebrates how God loves everything He has made. The music was wonderfully led by the Muddy Church minstrels.

An Animal Pun Quiz followed, with ‘Tigers’ on one side and ‘Lions’ on the other, completing to guess the responses questions such as (answers at the bottom):

  1. Why is it pointless to try talking to a cow?
  2. When Noah was loading the ark, where did he put the bees?

They concluded that the quiz was basically a draw!

Rector Simon Taylor gave a short talk on Noah’s Ark and church members were invited to reflect on how sin matters but that God saves! They were also challenged to leave the comfort of their metaphorical ‘ark’ and to go and be good news to our communities.

This was met with the approval of some 20 Adults, 30 children, 40 dogs, a cat, and a quail called Derek!

Muddy Church and Hambledon Church hope to host another Pet service again in the future – so do watch this place!

Pun answers – 1. Because everything goes in one ear and out the udder! 2. In the Ark-hives!
