Parish in good health ahead of the arrival of a new incumbent
The congregation of St Stephen’s, Shottermill is looking forward to the welcoming its new incumbent, the Revd Tim Radcliffe very soon.
Tim and his family will be arriving in a parish that’s been busy over the past few months.
This year St Stephen's raised £480 for the Bishop of Guildford's Lent Appeal.
For the previous 12 months the parish had been hosting a monthly Lunch Club. During Lent, the lunch became a weekly rendezvous
“Homemade soup, fresh bread and cheese were served,” says Julie Fox, the church’s administrator. “We invited those attending to bring a donation of fruit. But many gave money instead. So we decided to give what we collected over the five weeks to the Lent appeal,” she says.
The parish’s final lunch attracted 26 people, the largest number by far over the weeks.
“Many of those attending live alone,” says Julie. “They said how much they appreciated the time of sharing food and fellowship.”
After lunch there was a short lenten reflection and the group prayed for the sick and those in need.
