The Ven Catharine Mabuza
Contact the Archdeacon of Surrey
- Catharine Mabuza has been Archdeacon of Surrey since March 2024.
- She is the first woman archdeacon in the Diocese of Guildford and the first woman to hold the role of Archdeacon of Surrey since the post was created in the early 1100s.
- Catharine is inspired by the words of St Irenaeus, that ‘the Glory of God is a human being fully alive’, and in her role as Archdeacon wants to support and inspire those she leads and works alongside to be fully alive as the people God made them to be.
- Before moving to this role, Catharine led a large multi-congregational church in Warfield in the Diocese of Oxford, and was also Area Dean of Bracknell. Previously she was Parish Development Advisor in the Archdeaconry of Berkshire.
- Born and raised in Manchester, she read Theology at Oxford University before a management role at Royal Mail and then ordination training at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. She was ordained in the Diocese of Monmouth in 2001.
- In her spare time, Catharine loves being outdoors – walking, cycling, or gardening.
